Maurice f51a64017d refactor(client): type both trip map renderers against one MapViewProps contract
MapViewAuto took props: any and the Leaflet MapView destructured any, so a prop
one renderer learned and the other never heard of went unnoticed.
components/Map/mapViewContract.ts holds MapViewProps, derived from the GL
renderer's props and what the callers pass; MapView and the GL bindings in
glLazy declare satisfies ComponentType against it, and the GL renderer extends
it with its engine. The file imports types only, so check:gl-split is not
affected. Types only, no runtime change.

The types show two known gaps, recorded in the contract rather than papered
over: onMapReady is called by the GL renderer only, and callers pass pins
without trip_id (assignment and collection places) while both renderers type
their pins as Place; MapViewAuto bridges the latter with one commented cast.

Maurice 03cb9fa439 refactor(map): share the marker thumbnail loading between the Leaflet and GL maps
MapView and MapViewGL each held the same photo loading effect: read the
cached thumbs, fetch the missing ones, listen for their arrival and batch
them into one animation frame. It now lives in useMarkerThumbs, which
also owns the thumb state and the place photos switch, and both maps
call it where the effect used to be.

The effect keeps its keys (the picture sources and the switch). It reads
the places through useEffectEvent, which drops the old
exhaustive-deps suppression in MapViewGL and the warning in MapView.

Maurice ab343b0a7b fix(client): a phone turned sideways stays in the phone layout
The phone shell was chosen by width alone, and most phones are wider than
767px in landscape, so turning one swapped the whole route tree for the
desktop planner and an open sheet, its input and the map position were
lost. The phone query now also covers a touch screen under 500px tall,
which no tablet is. It lives in one place: the shell, the planner and todo
hooks, the warnings banner, dialog focus and the stylesheets read it, and
six components that measured the window once on mount now follow it.

Maurice 8fd46c4c18 feat: quality of life sweep from the feature discussions
Small requests from the discussions, each built end to end: planner and
map (cycling mode, date first headings, clear a day, stay times per day,
off-route stops, map lock, compact unplanned markers, pending stays,
cable car, transit quick picks), places (location filter, category from
OSM, open in maps, geo: link, image from an attachment, enrichment on
file import, places near a pin, place name language, Amap first in
China), lists and costs (packed counter, inherited sharing, Markdown
to-dos, payment notes, bookings CSV, my plan PDF), sharing (unplanned
places, travel only, without photos), journey (photo zoom, drafts,
photo order, trip suggestion, day jump), atlas (region counter, region
bucket list, places per country), vacay half company holidays, studio
copy and paste plus the book's own layouts, and RESTORE_FROM_BACKUP for
a first start restore.

Maurice 0dd07befa7 feat(planner): bring the plan tab and every trip dialog into the new look
The Plan tab was the last trip tab still in the old design. It now reads
like Bookings, Costs, Lists, Files and Collab, without losing a function:

- Day plan: each day is a card with a head band (day tile with weather,
stay and rental pills, a "+" menu for place, stay, transport, transit
and note), rows with "..." menus, white badges and a white route bar.
- Places column: add, search and filters in three rows, a show dropdown,
category and rating filters, and a selection bar at the foot.
- Place inspector, day details and the stay editor on the shared dialog
frame; the place form in the editor look with the name in the head band.
- Clicking a booking or transport anywhere on the plan opens the booking
detail popup first; Edit leads to the editor. The popup is one host
shared with the Bookings and Transports tabs.
- Files and Collab dialogs, notes, polls, links and chat moved to the same
frame; shared DialogShell and dialogParts hold the building blocks.
- The map hover card shows the place photo and follows the theme.

Every new and reworded string is translated into all locales, and a few
older English leftovers (help center, cost split, import hints) with them.
Phone screens keep their own look.

Maurice 5d4178d067 fix(map): open a place from its pin after the map was dragged (#2504)
Since drag-to-day (#891) a place pin swallows mousedown so the map holds
still while a drag starts. Leaflet only clears its "the map was panned"
flag on a mousedown it sees, so after one drag of the map it took every
later click on a pin for the end of that pan and dropped it. Pins stayed
dead until something else on the map was pressed, which is why zooming
out and clicking a cluster brought them back. Trip planner and
collections map were both affected; the GL renderers never were.

Pressing a draggable pin now clears that flag itself by switching the
map's pan handler off and on again, which is what the map would have
done had it seen the press. The click keeps Leaflet's normal route, so
it still closes an open popup on the map and still reaches listeners on
the page, such as an open context menu.

The new test file drives a real Leaflet map, since the mocked
react-leaflet has no pan state to go stale.

Maurice 1727732841 feat(plugins): plugins can add POI categories to the map and answer them
A new manifest capability poiCategories (up to 4, icon from an allow-list,
strict #rrggbb color) and the hook poiCategoryProvider.getPois behind the
hook:poi-category-provider permission. GET /api/plugin-pois in the plugin
contributions module answers them in the /api/maps/pois shape, with
search_plugin_pois as the MCP twin. plugin: ids no longer count as Google
place ids. SDK 1.8.0 carries the types, validation and docs.

On the map, one hook merges the built-in categories with the ones active
plugins declare, and the pill shows the plugin chips after a divider on
desktop and phone, scrolling sideways instead of shrinking a chip below
its touch target. A plugin chip searches through a repo that refuses
offline and parses the answer strictly. Its pins, on Leaflet and GL, use
the category's own icon and color, both checked again before they reach
any markup, and the hover card lists the plugin's details as escaped
text. A plugin POI can be added as a place like any other. The admin
panels on desktop and phone show a chip for the new permission and the
categories a plugin would add, from one shared module.

Addresses discussion #1781.

Maurice 362b1ee8d1 fix(map): a selected stay is flown to even when no pin stands for it
With the Unplanned filter on, a click on a stop in the day list moved the
map while a click on the stay chip did nothing: the map only went to a
selected place it showed as a pin, and the GL map also to one of the open
day's stops, which a stay is neither. Both renderers now look the target
up the same way, the pin first, then the day's stop, then the selected
place itself, so the map goes to the stay whatever filter hides its pin.

Maurice 93dddaa4af fix(mobile): booking routes on the phone map follow the day they run on
A booking switched on with "On map" stayed drawn on every day of the
phone's plan map, so a flight from the first day crossed the map of the
third, although a day chip frames one day and drops the other days' pins.
The plan map now draws such a booking only on the days it runs on, the
arrival day of an overnight one included, and the all-days view still
shows every booking that is switched on. The switch itself stays
trip-wide, and the desktop, collections and the road trip stage draw
exactly as before.

"On map" in a booking's sheet now reads as on only where the plan map
draws the route. From any other day a tap takes the map to the booking's
day, switching the route on when it is off, instead of hiding a route
that is not drawn there anyway.

The phone settings also gain the "Always show booking routes" switch the
desktop already had. As on the desktop it sets the default for trips not
yet touched on this device, so a trip where a route was switched on or
off by hand keeps that choice.

Maurice 757967bf18 fix(map): the location button follows the viewport instead of the mount
Both renderers read window.innerWidth once while rendering, so the button
that turns GPS on was decided by the width the map happened to see when it
mounted: a phone turned sideways crosses the 768px cut and kept whatever it
had, and turning back did not bring it home either. Both now use the same
useIsPhone the shell switches on. The test stub for matchMedia answers width
queries from window.innerWidth and re-evaluates on a resize, so a breakpoint
can be driven from a test the way the browser drives it.

Maurice a782e0e471 fix(map): make stops that share a spot reachable again
A trip that models one building as several stops — drop the bags, check in,
the museum inside the hotel — drew every pin on the same pixel, and only the
top one could be clicked, hovered or seen. Clustering is the mechanism for
exactly that: the plugin keeps children no zoom level can separate in one
cluster and fans them apart on click. disableClusteringAtZoom pinned the
group's own maximum zoom to 8, which both removed every cluster above it and
moved the only fan trigger into a zoom band a trip planner never operates in,
so the spiderfyOnMaxZoom set beside it could never fire.

The cutoff is gone. maxClusterRadius is a function of zoom instead: the same
generous radius as before in the overview, a pin's width above it, so stops
that are genuinely apart keep their own pins and a pile becomes a counted
bubble that fans open. Selecting a buried stop from the places rail now opens
the bubble it is hiding in rather than doing nothing visible, and it does that
without moving the camera, which stays the selection's own concern.

The GL renderer has no fan to open, so folding a pin there removes the only
thing that was left rather than providing a way in. It folds at a far tighter
radius — genuine coincidence, where nothing was reachable to begin with — and
draws the selected member of a pile, so the rail reaches it there too. A map
object without a projector now skips folding instead of dropping every marker.

The public share page spreads the same options and has no rail to fall back
on, which made it the worse case; it is fixed by the same change.

Closes #2344

Maurice 98e2938033 fix(maps): let an uploaded place image fill its marker
A place with an uploaded image showed a plain disc of its category
colour on the map, while a picked suggestion looked fine. The marker
sized its img with width and height attributes, and stylesheet rules
beat those: Tailwind's preflight gives every img height: auto, and
Leaflet's marker pane adds width: auto. Suggested and auto photos reach
the marker as 48px square thumbs, so nothing showed. A phone photo kept
its own proportions on the GL map, a sliver inside the circle, and its
full pixel size on Leaflet, where only the rounded-off corner of a
4000px image lands inside the circle. Both maps now build the img
through one helper that sizes it in its style, so object-fit: cover
crops any photo to the circle.

The thumb loading on both maps was keyed on place ids, so a change of
picture under the same place went unnoticed until a reload:
- Taking an upload off a place left the category dot instead of
  bringing its auto photo back.
- Picking another suggested photo kept the thumb of the first one,
which was cached under the provider id. A picked photo is now its own
  cache key.

Maurice 782bb365b5 fix(maps): the phone map carries no credit and no night pause labels
The credit was a round (i) under the locate button, and on a full-bleed phone map a
lone control there is the first thing the eye lands on. It is off on the phone now:
one rule in mobile.css against both engines' containers, so Leaflet, MapLibre and
Mapbox cannot drift apart. The desktop map is untouched and still shows the full
credit with its links. Owner's call, made knowingly.

With the credit gone the band the round controls floated on had nothing under it to
clear, so the 38px credit row comes out of --bottom-nav-h and out of the camera
padding the offered roads are framed with. The controls now stand on the map floor.

The night pause pills go with it. On the desktop one is a drag handle with a hint;
a phone has neither hover to explain it nor room to drag, and the markers come from
the whole drive rather than the stage on screen, so day 1 drew day 2's pill as well.
Both via lists go through the same filter, because the plan tab carries them too.

Maurice 6a6c7f1882 feat(roadtrip): other ways to drive a leg, on the phone
The desk offers alternative routes from the drive band between two stops;
the phone had nothing. A leg in the phone chain now carries one round
button that asks the router for other ways and switches to the map, where a
bar takes the stage bar's place: the ways as chips with their colour, time,
distance and what sets them apart, and a confirm button. On glass there is
no hover, so a tap on a chip or on a line only previews that road; confirm
writes it. The button shows only where the desk offers it (a routed leg
between chosen stops), for someone who may edit the day, and not offline,
since vias are written online only.

The picker could not have stayed open on a phone at all: the planner closed
it whenever road trip mode was off, and that mode is off on a phone by
design, so the next render shut it. The close now follows where the picker
can be seen (road trip mode on the desk, the road trip tab on a phone), and
useRouteAlternatives returns a memoised object.

The rules both shells need are shared: legReroutable in the row model,
alternativesPhase and alternativeSubline next to the overlays, and the desk
bar and sidebar read them too with no visible change. Both map engines take
an optional fitPadding, so the phone frames the leg between the day chips
and the bar instead of under them.

Maurice bd347f553b fix(maps): the satellite switch answers on the phone, and the compass stops hiding under it
Two faults behind one round button on the phone map.

The base layer switcher that both engines draw in the bottom left corner
sat on top of the GL compass, which started 8px to its left and ran on
under the frosted shell, so it read as a second button showing through.
The compass now stands beside the switcher, placed off the switcher's own
exported inset and size so the two cannot drift apart again.

Satellite never drew on GL because applySatellite gave up whenever
isStyleLoaded() was false and only retried on styledata. That flag is false
while any source has tiles or a setData in flight, which on a phone is the
usual state, and styledata does not fire when those finish. On the road
trip stage every tap met a busy style, because the settings write
re-rendered the shell and handed the map fresh stage arrays. The guard is
gone (the pass only runs after load, and addSource/addLayer only refuse a
style document that is not in yet), an existing layer just flips its
visibility, and a source left without its layer still gets the layer.

The stage data in MMapArea is memoised, so a store write no longer refits
the camera or sets the route, access and place sources again.

Maurice aaff8f9db4 feat(roadtrip): bring the road trip addon to the phone
A road trip tab on the mobile trip screen: the stage as a chain, the same
map underneath it, the sheets a passenger needs, and a search along the
route.

The addon was desktop only because road trip MODE is a data switch rather
than a view switch. It rewrites `assignments` and `places` for the whole
planner hook, and every mobile sheet is permanently mounted and reads those
same two lists, so turning it on there brought back documented regressions.
The mode flag is therefore untouched. A second flag, `roadtripFeedActive`,
feeds only the routing round and does it off the STORED assignments, so the
phone gets the drive without what the mode drags along with it.

The map is one instance shared by the plan tab and the road trip tab,
hoisted into a single JSX expression so React keeps it in the same position
and the WebGL context is never torn down on a tab switch.

The corridor search is scoped to what a phone can afford: a window of the
day rather than all of it, a smaller tile ceiling, a capped retry pass and a
deadline. The standard search is three requests where the desk makes
fifteen. The categories are deliberately not narrowed, because they all ride
one query per box, so a second one costs nothing.

Two gaps found while wiring it up are closed here as well. The fuel search
drew its offers nowhere on the phone, so the button did nothing visible;
they are in the dry band now, with the detour, the spare range and an accept
button. And the map credit opened as a two line ribbon across a screen the
map fills: both GL engines now start it collapsed, and Leaflet, which has no
collapsed mode of its own, is given one.

Maurice c1d55c463c fix(dawarich): three things a tester on dev1 ran into
The Atlas country check timed out. It asked Dawarich for a year of visited
cities in one request, and Dawarich computes that over every point in the
window with nothing cached, so a dense recorder never got under the 15 s the
server allows. The year is now asked for a month at a time, one request after
another, and folded back together. The windows sit a second apart because
Dawarich reads the bounds as inclusive.

The recorded route only appeared after a reload. Every Dawarich call from the
browser carried the shared 8 s timeout, so the browser gave up while the server
carried on and cached the answer for the next page load. Calls that make the
server talk to Dawarich now wait two minutes, the Atlas four. On the GL
renderers the draw also gave up whenever isStyleLoaded() was false, which it is
while any tile is still loading, and only retried on style.load. It now waits
for idle. The hazard overlay had the same guard and gets the same wait. The
pill shows a ring while the route loads, so a slow first fetch no longer looks
like "done, nothing there".

A collapsed day now takes its recorded route off the map, following the same
folds the planner already applies to places, the road trip sidebar's included.

Maurice c8cb88133f fix(maps): the projection, the labels and two unbounded reads
A map keeps the datum it was built with, and Leaflet cannot change one
afterwards. The basemap could still turn into Amap's after the fact: a first
settings request that fails leaves the store on defaults for the session and is
healed later, and the raster layer then drew GCJ-02 tiles under a map still
projecting WGS-84, putting every marker, route and cluster a few hundred metres
off the street beneath it until the planner was left and reopened. The datum is
part of the element's identity now, so a flip rebuilds the map. Only the datum:
keying on the whole tile URL would throw the view away on every template edit.

Index POIs were labelled by an exact lookup of a term the index matches as a
substring, so any leaf that is not literally a term missed and took the first
category of the request instead. In a corridor search that is whichever pill
was tapped first, and the panel groups and colours on that field: a trattoria
came back as a petrol station, or a petrol station as tonight's hotel. The
label now comes from the term that actually matched, longest first.

Two outbound reads were missing what the house rule asks for. The brand-logo
fetch had no deadline at all next to a Wikidata hop that allows six seconds, so
a stalled CDN held a request context and a socket for undici's five-minute
default, and its size cap only applied after the bytes were in memory. The
Wikimedia photo proxy beside it had the same shape. And the Amap provider
buffered every answer uncapped and trusted a cast for its arrays, so a `pois`
object rather than a list threw a TypeError that surfaced as a 500 instead of
the OpenStreetMap answer.

Maurice 1a95157b3a feat(collections): say what a place is without having to click it
Asked for in the feedback: a wall of round photos, and no way to tell which is
which. "Name and displaying any custom rating would be very beneficial to quickly
seeing what is around you that is of interest."

The collections map had hover switched off. The trip map has told you what a
marker is all along, so it is the same card, now shared instead of written a
third time — it already existed twice, once per renderer, and the two had drifted
in how they resolved the category icon.

The card gains a rating, and so does the marker itself: an amber disc on the
corner where a trip's day numbers sit. The two never collide, because a numbered
stop is one already planned into a day and this answers the question asked before
that. Nothing is drawn for an unrated place, which is most of them.

Also from this round: the place panel's labels move up beside the name, where a
label belongs — read three rows down they looked like a property of the rating
above them — and the rating gets a ground of its own so a line of stars stops
reading as another row of text.
2026-09-13 16:49:20 +02:00
Maurice 46aa0c6b0a fix(map): the base layer switch stays in its corner when a place opens
Opening a place sent it from the bottom left of the map to the top, which reads
as the control moving house rather than as room being made. Nothing was in its
way: the inspector is a card centred between the sidebars and at most 800 wide,
so the corner it was clearing is one the card never reaches.

Both renderers, since the switch is not supposed to move when an instance changes
its map.
2026-09-13 15:41:46 +02:00
Maurice 5b4a7e82ff feat(client): show Dawarich stays, routes and marks where they belong
The trip planner and the journal get a "From Dawarich" list: the stays
recorded for those dates, each one a row that can be dismissed or turned
into a place or an entry after a review step that shows time, name, note
and day. A place that came from a recording carries the Dawarich mark
next to its name so its origin stays visible afterwards.

The recorded route lies over the trip and journal maps as an overlay,
coloured per day and cut along the reader's own timezone rather than
UTC. It is fetched for the window on screen and never stored.

The Atlas gets its own panel beside the map for the countries and cities
the recordings prove, and the wish list is ticked off there, on the day
of the visit, undoably. The phone has its own take on all of it, in the
mobile shell's colours and with native sheets.

Wenyin Wei 12eabbb685 fix(shared): cluster the public share page's markers
The share page drew every stop as its own pin while the planner drew the same
trip as a handful of clusters, so a shared link opened on three dozen
overlapping markers. On a 300px-tall map that covers a whole city, the pins
underneath can be neither read nor tapped (#2343).

The option block and the icon factory move to components/Map/markerCluster.ts,
which both maps import, so the two cannot drift apart again. The planner's
options are unchanged.

leaflet.markercluster's two stylesheets were imported by MapView.tsx alone.
The share page never mounts MapView, so it imports them itself: without them
the bubbles keep the library's default styling and spiderfy's legs are
invisible.

Maurice 3f0eb210d8 feat(roadtrip): move a stop reached after midnight onto the day it is reached
A day that runs past midnight used to keep every one of its stops on its own
card, so day one ended at 03:12 with three places nobody reaches on day one and
day two began with a drive that had already happened. The rail now lays the
stops out by the date they are actually reached: when the clock goes backwards
between two arrivals the ones after it move to the following day, into a block
that says where they came from, and the night drive and its kilometres go with
them. It is an arrangement, not a write — the day planner beside it is
untouched, nothing reaches the database, and a shorter stay the evening before
puts everything back on its own.

The map follows the same arrangement, because a boundary drawn in the rail and
not on the map is two answers to one question. Day one now ends where its last
reachable stop is and the line, the legs and the totals are cut to match.

Two switches in the driving settings, off by default. "Connect the days" routes
the gap between one day's last stop and the next day's first, which is real
driving the rail has never drawn, and counts it. "A colour per day" then puts
the days back into a line that has become continuous, and tints each day header
to match.

Collapsing a day from its header takes its route and its places off the map as
well as out of the rail, and the categories in the corridor panel fold the same
way. The refuel band is one full-width red band with the pump as its button,
the results are chips, and the driving dialog is two columns of panels with the
figures on one right edge.

Also fixes a via that would not adjust the route once dragged. Five separate
causes, all measured rather than guessed: leg threading used the card index
instead of the owning day's, the anchor lookup returned chain indices, it
filtered by the card rather than by the anchor's owner, seams were routed
without their vias, and a seam once routed was never re-fetched.

Maurice f5d6af9c77 fix(planner): steady satellite pill, responsive places rail, day-scoped add
The satellite toggle sat on an offset that included --day-panel-h, so it hopped
every time the day panel was collapsed or expanded. On the desktop map that
panel is a centred card between the sidebars and never reaches the pill at the
left edge, so the lift only applies on a phone now.

In the places rail the two add buttons split the width evenly once a day is
open, and every button drops to its icon when the rail is dragged narrow. The
filter tabs span the rail and keep their own text widths. The count is a badge
across the rail; the search field got the outline the controls around it use.

An empty day offers a button that opens the place form pointed at that day
instead of only stating that nothing is planned. The day is cleared again when
the form is opened to edit, which it was not before.

The trip tab bar no longer carries a native title repeating its own label; the
full name moved to aria-label for the tabs whose label is abbreviated.

Three maps tests drove the index switch through app_settings, which no longer
holds it, and now move TREK_PLACES_ENABLED instead.

Maurice 11f4c740e1 feat(roadtrip): draw the last bit to a place the road does not reach
A router snaps every waypoint to the nearest road before it starts, and OSRM
does it with no distance limit at all. A viewpoint above a valley, a farmhouse
down a track, a marina at the end of a pier: the drive to it really begins
somewhere else, and the line said nothing about that. It either stopped short
for no visible reason or appeared to cut across open ground.

OSRM reports the snap position and its distance in every single answer, and
this client has thrown both away since the first route was drawn. Reading them
costs no request and no key.

The gap is drawn as a dashed spur in the route's own blue, over the route
rather than under it, because it is the one piece of the line that is not
driving. Thirty metres is the floor, which is about a dual carriageway and its
verge, so a place pinned off an aerial photo does not earn a dash. From a
quarter of a kilometre the rail prints the distance too, because that is where
"the car park is over there" turns into luggage, a gate, or a track a hire car
should not be on.

Vias are deliberately left out: a via is a shape handle, not a destination, and
a dash hanging off one reads as a fault.

Maurice e11ae6f056 feat(roadtrip): shape the drive — vias, alternatives and stops along the way
The road-trip addon's second half: the parts that let a planned drive be
argued with rather than only read.

Reshaping. A via records which stop it follows by position, and that position
is resolved fresh every time the day is routed — so inserting, reordering or
removing a stop moved the ground under every via after it, and the drive
silently snapped back to the road it had been steered away from while the
handle still sat on the map where it was left. The correction is computed
against the day as it stands and written with the same change, in one
transaction: a half-applied re-anchoring mixes two numbering schemes in one
day. The one judgement that needs geometry — which half of a split leg a via
belongs to when a stop lands in the middle of it — is measured on the road
actually driven, so a fuel stop added to a bent leg keeps the bend on the side
it belongs to.

Alternatives. OSRM answers most long legs with exactly one route, which read as
"there is no other way" when a perfectly good slower road existed. When it
offers nothing, the same drive is asked for again without the motorway, and
failing that without the tolls — one question at a time, stopping as soon as
one lands. The offer says what it is rather than how much slower.

Stops along the way. Everything the corridor search can find is a pause, not a
destination: fuel, charging, rest areas, campsites, food and sights all sit
inside the leg they were found on, carry their own colour and icon, and are
left out of every stop count. That colour is defined once and read by the rail,
the corridor list, the map pin and the picker — and it replaced the chains'
logos, which turned a corridor full of petrol stations into a row of
advertisements and left the brands with no logo on file looking like something
else entirely.

How long a stop takes was readable in the rail and writable nowhere; new places
were given an invented hour that nobody had entered. It is now set from the
rail, cleared as a zero because the update statement folds a null into "leave
it alone", and new places start with nothing.

Both columns are rebuilt on one type scale, anchored to the day plan's own
sizes so switching tabs does not change the size of the text beside it. The
rail reads as trip totals, day cards and a chain of stops with the drives
between them; the corridor column as what to look for, how the search is
getting on, and what it found. Six category pills over three lines became one
dropdown, which is the space the results wanted.

Also: the offered routes are framed on the map when the picker opens (`fitKey`
carries no coordinates and each renderer reads it as "the selected day"), road
trip mode does not cluster at all so the whole drive stays readable zoomed out,
and the drive-time labels finally render in the app's own typeface instead of
Leaflet's Helvetica. All of it in both renderers.

Maurice 6aa7884874 perf(maps): search a corridor with one query per box, not one per category
The road trip corridor asks for fuel, charging, rest areas and campsites over a
dozen boxes, and asking per category was four times the requests for the same
answer — slow, and four times the chance a shared Overpass mirror times out and
reports the stretch as unsearched.

`category` now takes a comma-separated list. Each OSM selector belongs to exactly
one category, so a hit is still labelled with the kind it answered, and the
result cap is shared out per category so one dense kind can't crowd the rest.
The MCP tool takes an array for the same reason.

Also puts the POI, plugin and route via-point pins on the map's render clock,
the same fix the planned-place pins already had: a library marker repositions on
every pointer sample while the canvas draws once a frame, so the suggestions
swam during a drag and snapped back on release.

Maurice 37179cb608 feat(maps): show a chain's own logo on its map pin
A corridor full of petrol stations was a row of identical coloured dots, and the one
thing that tells them apart is the brand. OSM carries brand:wikidata on most of them —
88% of the fuel stations in a Berlin box — Wikidata carries the logo as property P154,
and Commons serves it.

The bytes are proxied and cached rather than linked: one self-hosted instance asking
Wikimedia for a handful of logos is a very different egress profile from every
visitor's browser announcing which petrol stations they are looking at. The cache is in
memory because a GET must not write to the database, and there are only so many fuel
brands; a brand with no logo is remembered too, or every pan would ask again.

A logo-less or unreachable brand answers 204 and the pin keeps its category icon, so
nothing depends on Wikidata being reachable. Both renderers show it, since both read
the same category table.

Maurice 46a89e7a90 fix(map): surface geolocation failures as a localized toast 2026-09-01 19:24:38 +02:00
Maurice dce348b947 fix(map): give the Leaflet map its own zoom ceiling, so a vector basemap cannot take the planner down
Opening a trip on 4.1.0 could land on the error boundary with "Map has no maxZoom
specified", and so could the map settings tab, which left no screen from which to
pick a different basemap.

Leaflet answers getMaxZoom() from the map options first and otherwise from a
layer that brought one, and only a GridLayer ever contributes via its beforeAdd
hook. A vector basemap is a GL canvas on a plain L.Layer, so it contributes
nothing, and MapContainer set no ceiling of its own. MarkerClusterGroup.onAdd
refuses an infinite one by throwing, before any clustering, so an empty trip hit
it too.

That path opened when the default basemap became a MapLibre style. It reaches
further than an operator choosing OpenFreeMap: resolveTileUrl sends a keyless
CARTO template to the app default, which is now a vector style, so every
instance still carrying the old CARTO basemap fell into it on upgrade.

The ceiling belongs on the map rather than on the base layer, because it has to
hold whichever of the three branches renders. 19 matches what the raster and
satellite layers already carried, so nothing changes for the maps that worked.
SharedTripPage gets the same treatment: it has no cluster to throw, but it draws
the same vector basemap and its fitBounds asks for a ceiling.

mapZoomCeiling.test.ts pins Leaflet's own semantics against the real library
rather than a mock, since a mocked react-leaflet would have kept passing through
all of this.

Maurice b401da2264 fix(maps): default the Leaflet basemap to OpenFreeMap
CARTO started stamping "API KEY REQUIRED" across every keyless basemap tile
on 26.08.2026. #2060 added a key field as the immediate answer, but it leaves
a self-hosted instance needing an email exchange with CARTO before its maps
look right, and every default in the client still pointed at CARTO. Default
to OpenFreeMap Positron instead: no key, no account, no request limit,
commercial use allowed, attribution required.

OpenFreeMap serves vector tiles only, so the Leaflet basemap is a MapLibre
style document rather than an XYZ template. maplibre-gl-leaflet hangs a GL
canvas into Leaflet's own tile pane, which leaves everything above it alone -
markers, GeoJSON, clusters, plugin layers, the custom panes, and the click
handling, since Leaflet's CSS already puts pointer-events:none on that layer.
maplibre-gl still arrives only through a dynamic import, so no chunk that
draws a map grows by a megabyte.

Switched: the trip planner, the MapView fallback every preview goes through,
the journey map, collections, the atlas, the shared trip page and the offline
tile prefetch. OpenFreeMap Positron and Bright join the tile presets in
settings, the admin defaults and both mobile screens.

A CARTO template that is already saved keeps working when a key backs it -
that stays a supported choice. Without a key it is not drawn at all:
resolveTileUrl falls back to the default rather than to a watermark, so an
instance that upgrades with one in its settings sees the new basemap
immediately and needs no migration. The stored value is left as it is, so the
Map settings tab still shows what was chosen and the warning underneath it
explains why - one sentence appended, in all 23 locales.

OpenFreeMap asks for a credit of its own; OpenStreetMap alone under its tiles
is wrong and a licence problem. attributionForTile() derives it from the URL
rather than from a flag at each call site, and the shared trip map, which
carried no attribution at all, now gets one.

Offline maps keep working and get cheaper. A vector style is four things
instead of one, so sync/glPrefetcher.ts walks the style document, its sprite,
the Latin glyph ranges of each font stack it uses, the TileJSON - the planet
path is versioned, so guessing it answers 200 with an empty body - and then
the .pbf tiles. Over the Berlin bounding box TREK computes, raster z10-16 is
2237 requests and 34.6 MB and gives up above z16; vector z10-14 is 177
requests and 32.1 MB and stays sharp above that, because MapLibre scales the
z14 tile rather than asking for another. The Workbox rule for
tiles.openfreemap.org moves to CacheFirst and shares the prefetcher's cache,
so browsing tops a downloaded region up instead of filling a second copy
beside it - a versioned tile path can never be stale. Clearing offline maps
clears it too.

The atlas loses its second raster layer. It existed to warm the HTTP cache of
neighbouring zoom levels, which a vector basemap does not need; a second one
would only cost a second WebGL context. OpenFreeMap has no label-free style,
so its labels are switched off on the live map instead - they are all symbol
layers, while borders and coastlines are line and fill - re-armed on
style.load so a theme switch keeps them off.

Theme changes call setStyle in place rather than rebuilding the layer: a swap
per toggle would leak a WebGL context, and browsers cap those in the low
teens.

Maurice 1f66ef1d32 fix(maps): let users and admins enter a CARTO API key (#2060)
CARTO stamps an "API KEY REQUIRED" watermark onto every basemap tile
fetched without a key since 26.08.2026, and both CartoDB presets plus the
built-in fallback are CARTO. The key is free and needs no account, so add
it as a setting rather than dropping the provider.

carto_api_key sits next to mapbox_access_token: per user in Settings/Map,
instance-wide under Admin/User Defaults, encrypted at rest, injected from
CARTO_API_KEY on managed instances. Unlike Mapbox it never switches the
map provider, since a raster key says nothing about the renderer.

The key is appended as ?key= at render time instead of being stored in the
template, so a saved URL stays portable and survives a rotation. That is
also what reaches the four maps that pinned CARTO and ignored the user's
tile setting: atlas, collections, the public trip share and the public
journey. The two share pages read it from their token-gated payload, the
same way baseCurrency already travels.

Also lifts the release notice above page chrome. Its overlay sat at
z-index 50, under the Vacay mode toolbar at 61, so the dialog was neither
on top nor modal. Adds a six-step layer scale to index.css and moves the
three notice shells onto it.

Maurice 4bac447ac8 fix(planner): draw only the selected day's automated transports
Closes #2019

The route toggle belongs to one day; the reservation list it filtered is the
whole trip. So turning on a day's routing let every transit reservation in the
trip draw its geometry at once, including the ones belonging to other days —
on a day that has no transport of its own, which is what the reporter saw.

Only automated transports rode it, and that is the distinction they drew: a
manually entered train or flight is type 'train'/'flight' and reaches the map
only through its own per-booking toggle. Only the transit search stores
type 'transit'.

Gate the transit branch on the day, and gate only that one — the per-booking
toggle stays trip-wide, because switching a booking's route on is a deliberate
act about that booking. The predicate is the day-order range, not the departure
day: an overnight journey carries end_day_id and has to stay on both of its
days, the same rule the sidebar timeline already applies. Day order rather than
day id, since ids stop being monotonic once days are reordered.

The day context is optional throughout, so a map without one — collections —
keeps behaving exactly as it did. Not a 4.0.0 regression: it reproduces on
3.4.1 too.

Maurice 7aead0b713 fix(map): stop the day fit from framing everything and then drifting off it
Selecting a day compensated for the day panel twice: the fit reserves the
panel's height in its bottom padding, and then 300ms later the camera was
nudged again with panBy([0, 150]). Both came from the same change, and
together they moved the view 150px further than intended.

Wide days never showed it. A day that runs north to south does: the fit is
height-bound there, so the northernmost stop sits exactly on the top padding
line, and the nudge then pushes it off the canvas. What the user sees is the
map framing the whole day correctly and then sliding upwards, leaving the
first marker outside the view.

The padding alone is right, and it is what MapViewGL has always done with the
same numbers, so this also brings the two renderers back into agreement.

Maurice 62bc7ff8fd Jump to today, map-app links, drag to day, PDF landing time (#1891)
* Open a running trip on today

Asked for in discussion #1567: during a trip, opening the planner starts
at day 1 and you scroll to find out what is planned for today.

The mobile shell has done this since the plan tab was built - it seeds
the active day with today when the trip is running. The desktop day plan
never did, so the same trip behaved differently depending on the screen
you opened it on. It now selects today's day, expands it and scrolls it
into view, once per mount and only while nothing is selected yet, so a
deep link or a day picked before switching tabs still wins.

The date comparison moved into one helper both sides use. It is
deliberately local rather than toISOString(): 08:00 in Tokyo is still
yesterday in UTC, and a trip day is a calendar day where the traveller
is standing.

Also fixes a note losing its colour when dragged to another day. A move
is a delete plus a create, and the create was still sending the three
fields notes had before colours existed.

* Open a collection place in a map app

Asked for in discussion #1455: a saved place is somewhere you intend to
go, but the only way to get directions to one was to add it to a trip
first, where the button has been for a while.

The collection detail gets the same picker off the same helper: Google
Maps, Waze, Apple Maps and OpenStreetMap, filtered by what the place can
actually be located with. A place with coordinates offers all of them; a
place typed in by hand with just a name and an address still offers the
two that take a search string, and a place with neither shows no button
at all.

It sits on the meta line beside the address, quieter than the link chips
below it, because it is an action on the place rather than a piece of it.

* Drag a place off the map onto a day

Asked for in discussion #891: assigning a place means finding it again in
the sidebar, even though it is right there under the cursor on the map.

The drop half already existed and did not need touching. Every day, every
row and every gap between rows in the day plan reads a placeId and calls
onAssignToDay with the position it was dropped at, complete with the
toast and the undo entry. What was missing was a second place to pick a
place UP from - the only one was the row in the places sidebar.

Markers become that second source. Both renderers build their markers as
real DOM nodes, so one helper covers Leaflet and the GL variants alike,
and it sets the same two channels the sidebar row does: dataTransfer for
the drop, and window.__dragData because browsers hide dataTransfer while
the pointer is merely hovering. The day plan cannot tell the two apart.

Not offered on touch: HTML5 drag is a pointer feature, and on a phone
the day plan is not on screen next to the map anyway.

* Show the landing time in the PDF

Asked for in discussion #1310: the export prints a flight's departure and
nothing else, so a reader cannot tell how much of the day is left for
anything after it.

The day plan has drawn both times as "14:30 - 16:45" for a while; the
export never got the rule. Now it does, for any transport that begins and
ends on the same day - a train and a ferry read the same way a flight
does.

Across a span it stays as it was: the arrival belongs to the arrival day,
which already prints it as its own time, and repeating it on the
departure day would put tomorrow's clock next to today's departure.

Maurice cf62567c48 fix(map): stop untrusted values reaching the marker HTML (#1820)
* fix(map): drop the casing layer before its source on teardown

Tearing down the reservation overlay logged an error on every map unmount:

Source "trek-reservations" cannot be removed while layer
  "trek-reservations-lines-transit-casing" is using it.

The casing layer arrived with the transit paths in 3.2.0 but was never added to
destroy(), which only removed the main line layer. The try/catch around it gave
no protection either — the engine reports this by firing an error event rather
than throwing — so the source was silently left behind on the style.

The layer id is a named constant now, so the place that creates it and the place
that removes it can no longer drift apart.

The lifecycle test grew the assertion that would have caught it: the fake map
now refuses to remove a source that a layer still references, the same way the
real one does. Verified against the unfixed code — two tests fail without the
change.

* fix(map): stop untrusted values reaching the marker HTML

Both map renderers build their marker HTML as a string and hand it to
L.divIcon / innerHTML. Two of the interpolations carry values a user controls,
and neither was escaped.

place.image_url is the worse of the two, because it is not admin-only: any trip
member with edit rights can set it. placeUpdateRequestSchema is a plain record
of unknown values, and the length guard in places.controller covers name,
description, address and notes but not image_url. The renderers do check the
value, but only with startsWith('/uploads/') — a payload like

  /uploads/x" onerror="…" y="

satisfies that and then breaks out of the src="…" attribute.

category.color is the same shape one line up, reachable by an admin. It also
reaches SharedTripPage, which builds its own divIcon and answers without a
guard, so that payload lands in front of people who have no account here.

Colours are allow-listed rather than escaped. Escaping stops the attribute
breakout but leaves a working CSS value behind, and `url(https://…)` in a
background is a tracking pixel. Anything that is not #rgb/#rrggbb falls back.
image_url is a URL, not an enum, so that one is escaped; the prefix check stays.

Server side, the category contract now demands a hex colour, and the endpoints
validate through DTO classes instead of @Body('color') — a property read carries
no metatype, so the global pipe never saw it. That retires two entries from the
body-contract allow list. It replaces the hand-rolled 400 for a missing name
with the pipe's envelope, the same trade the places and trips migrations made.

The response schema deliberately still accepts any string: the write path was
open for a long time, so tightening it would make an instance fail on its own
stored rows. The client allow-list is what covers those.

Verified against the unpatched renderer — the three new cases fail without it.

* perf(client): serialize the map icons without react-dom/server

Six modules imported react-dom/server statically to turn a lucide icon into an
SVG string. That put Fizz — roughly 190 kB raw, 57 kB gzip — into a chunk three
lazy routes share, the Leaflet renderer among them, which is the default. For
output that is always a single <svg> with a flat list of shape children.

  mapViewport chunk   189,532 -> 3,710 B
  Tooltip chunk       194,333 -> 1,970 + 4,860 B
  precache total      17,856 -> 17,675 KiB

utils/iconMarkup.ts serializes React elements directly. It is generic over
elements rather than over lucide's icon tables on purpose: iconNode is closed
over inside createLucideIcon and never exported, so calling the forwardRef
render function is what survives a lucide upgrade.

Byte-compatibility is checked, not asserted. iconMarkup.parity.test.ts diffs the
output against real Fizz for every exported icon in three prop shapes — the test
file is the one place still allowed to import react-dom/server, and it never
reaches a bundle. Two traps it covers: viewBox must not be kebab-cased into
view-box, and Fizz emits <path …></path> rather than a self-closing tag.

TripPDF loses its lazy renderer entirely — ensureRenderer, the module-level
handle and the two "not ready yet" guards that returned an empty string. There
is nothing left to load.

An eslint rule keeps the import from creeping back. Without it the regression is
invisible: the build stays green, the app keeps working, and the chunk quietly
grows by 190 kB again.
